What is NAPS Journey?

Since working as a sleep consultant, I quickly came to realise the bigger problem. No one knows anything about infant sleep. Midwives don't know, health visitors don't know and neither do GP's. So of course.....parents don't know! 

Most go through pregnancy thinking that babies just sleep when they're tired. 

That is not the case.

Babies need to be TAUGHT how to sleep. 

As their parents, we need to be able to recognise sleep cues vs hunger cues, we need to know when and how to settle them, we need to know how much sleep they should be having at what time of day and for what age. IT IS A LOT. 

So much emphasis is put on breastfeeding classes antenatally but a baby will always learn to eat, whether from a breast or a bottle. Do you know what they don't automatically do without help? SLEEP! 

 

But where do you turn for advice? 

 

So I started NAPS JOURNEY. National Antenatal and Postnatal Sleep Journey. 

My goal is to give you all the help and advice you will need BEFORE you need it. Between 32 & 36 weeks of pregnancy. That way, you know what to expect, how to calm an unsettled baby and most importantly, understand WHY your baby is unsettled and what it is that they want. That is true responsive parenting. 

Then, when your little bundle of joy arrives, we book in for a second catch up session when they are between 6-12 weeks old so we can troubleshoot together any issues you may be having and make sure you are still on the right track. We then go through baby's changing sleep needs so you're prepared for what to come.
